The Breakdown of Slow Fashion, + Look Book and Haul!

Hello ladies, It's been a while since a blog post went up, but in this post i'm going to be sharing my favourite tips and tricks for a lil' sustainable shopping, introducing slow fashion and sharing a few pieces that iv'e scored second hand.

So, what is fast fashion exactly? To someone who's never heard the term before, it can be a little daunting. Put simply, fast fashion is the mass manufacturing of cheap clothing by means that don't necessarily have consideration for the people making the clothes, the resources needed or the impact on the environment. Fast fashion giants like H&M, Fashion Nova, BooHoo, Cotton On and ZARA are constantly trying to keep up with the latest trends sampling hundreds of styles from runways and high fashion houses in order to keep the customers (and cash $!) flowing in.

Recently, I shared a post on my Instagram that mentioned that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world (right up there with the oil industry), producing a whole 8% of greenhouse gas emissions. That may not sound like a lot, but if you take the number 4 and add 9 (yes, 9) zeros, that's the kind of measurement we're dealing with. The industry's means of production also involve toxic chemicals, non-renewable resources and dehumanising working conditions for garment workers that get paid only a few cents a day for making an item that will eventually be sold for upwards of 100X that price.

Slow fashion, or shopping sustainably, is pretty much the exact opposite. It's a movement that is dedicated to being mindful with the way you shop, as well as conscious about how your clothes were made and where they are coming from. Just as there are fast fashion stores, there are slow fashion stores and boutiques as well. Unfortunately though, because of the extra care and consideration taken in making the garments - the prices end up pretty high (rip my bank account!). Higher prices mean that shopping exclusively slow fashion is pretty much not accessible to everyone, but that's where shopping mindfully comes in. I'm not going to sit here and pretend to be a saint, I still buy from fast fashion brands because it's what is available to me. However, I do keep in mind a few things when i'm shopping.

My Five Fave Tips for Shopping Sustainably

1) Thrift shopping
One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to become an eco friendly shopper is thrift shopping or buying second hand. Do some research about thrift stores or second hand markets in your city and don't be afraid to give them a chance! You can find some absolute gold for dirt cheap.

2) Embracing hand me downs
This one is not available to everyone , however if you have siblings or cousins or even parents around your size, see if you can get some wear out of anything they're throwing out.

3) Asking myself essential questions before making a purchase
Whenever I do buy something new, I always like to ask myself a few questions before hand. Do I really like this item or am I just buying it to keep up with the trends? Can I see myself wearing this in a years time? Does it fit me properly with room to grow? Is it well made and long lasting?

4) Looking for quality
Linking back to the previous question a little, looking for quality pieces is a great way to reduce your impact too. Having something that you can wear for years and years is much better than buying something new every season.

5) Avoiding fast fashion brands
Even though cheap clothing from brands like Cotton On and Glassons are the most accessible to me and I don't feel guilty buying something new from time to time, I do like to avoid some of the worse brands like Zaful, Romwe, Missguided etc. If you are unsure of a company's status a great website you can use to check is Shop Ethical. Just type in a company name and find their rating from a range of criteria!

A Few of my Fave Pieces Iv'e Scored Second Hand

I found this straw bag and linen dress in thrift stores in my city, both of these pieces were originally retailing for $50 each!

I found a great pair of jeans, a lovely neutral tee and a gorgeous flowy dress at Kirribilli second hand fashion markets.

How I styled the top from the market, a thrifted skirt and a hand me down jacket and bag!

Styling the dress from the thrift market.

To Summarise

If you take away one thing form this post, let it be this:
To make an impact with the way you shop, you don't have to drop thousands of dollars on expensive, 'sustainable clothing'. Making smarter, sustainable choices like buying second hand or getting the most use out of your clothes as possible before replacing it is a wonderful way to help reduce your impact too!

2018 Skincare Routine

Welcome to todays post, my skincare routine. This year, it was one of my goals to ~finally~ clear my skin after never having much work for me. To my pleasant surprise, with my new skincare routine I managed to banish most of my pimples and fade my scars within a few months. This routine, like any other, hasn't completely stopped me from breaking out, but it has changed the way I look at and manage my skin daily.

Just a little disclaimer - this is what worked for me however everyone's skin is different so it might not work for you too. I am not a professional, i'm just sharing a few tips and products that helped me out :) Remember every kind of skin is beautiful and worthy of love babes <3.

First things first: my skin type. I have combination skin, oily and sensitive to be specific. It has taken me a while to figure out how to care for it properly and I have tried an unfortunate about of products that haven't worked. The basic tips for caring for oily/sensitive skin is to use products that don't contain harsh chemicals and artificial ingredients, every product I use is all natural and vegan (yay!!) and I can honestly say that it makes that biggest difference in keeping my skin clear. I also find that and oil free moisturiser is essential, believe me, it wasn't that long ago that I was practically scared of the stuff with the fear that it would clog my pores and breakout my skin. Needless to say my attitude towards it has changed a lot since then :).

The routine:
I use the same products morning and night when it comes to my face (with a few variations throughout the week), consisting of the basic cleanse, tone & moisturise routine. Starting with warm water, I wet my face - this loosens any dirt or oil build up and opens up my pores. I then massage the natural instinct refreshing foaming cleanser into my skin and rinse with cold water. Next, I use witch hazel with a cotton pad to tone over my problem areas (that's the T-zone for me!) - this stuff is really good for antibacterial cleansing and fighting acne I have found. Next it's a spritz of the essano rosehip mist toner (all over my face this time) and instead of wiping it off I let it soak into my skin instead.

After the toner mist has dried down, I apply bio oil to my acne scars. I'm not going to lie, I was extremely skeptical at first - why would you fight oily skin with more ... oil? But lo and behold.... it.. worked? This product was life changing for me (this is beginning to sound like some cringe worthy advertising, but I promise it isn't haha) and sticking to applying it twice a day for a few months basically got rid of the pimples and uneven tone on my forehead and cheeks. I really do recommend this one :)

Lastly, I like to go in with a moisturiser all over my face. As I said before, I have had a strange relationship with moisturiser. I was never used to want to wear it out of the fear that  it would only contribute to my breakouts but after countless people urging my to moisturise my skin I finally gave in and got myself some. Moisturiser as a product is a weird one for me, and I honestly can say that it really doesn't matter which one you use, just as long as you use one. I currently use the LUSH celestial moisturiser however I find it a bit too thick and oily for my skin, so I alternate between that and a lighter one from simple skincare.

The routine doesn't end here however! Twice a week I use a face mask or exfoliate my skin, currently I'm using the frank body creamy face scrub and the alya skin Australian pink clay mask. These two additions are so so important, and make the biggest difference when managing breakouts.

Of course skin care doesn't just stop in the bathroom. Part of how I manage my skin comes from my diet and hygiene as well. Don't roll your eyes at me but drinking enough water is so important (!1!1!) as well as limiting the amount of refined and processed sugars and increasing your whole foods intake. Eliminating dairy from my diet was also a major contributor, resulting in an evening out of skin tone and texture, less pimples and keeping my face glowy. Not to mention the other great outcomes for your body, the environment and the animals (that's a whole other blog post ladies!)

I believe that wraps it up for this week! Feel free to ask ny questions or leave any comments, I will reply to them all! The products mentioned in this post are:

the 2019 journals - part one

Reading through my journal of last year, I found quite a few pages of writings, poems, notes and lessons that I found myself reading and rereading and reflecting on these past few months. I decided to create a series here on the blog that I can share these things with you, not only because I like them, but because of how they remind me to be constantly reflecting on myself. Self growth, love and success are three of my top goals at this point in my life, and I have learnt that part of growing to love yourself is realising that you can be full of good advice sometimes - and to be proud of that.

Anyway, this first post in the series is a list of words of focus I love to keep reminding myself of - sort of like my own  recipe for happiness and peace in my life. I invite you to take on board some of these, add your own or even just think about them in the time it takes you to read this post - I hope you enjoy <3

abundance: of things and people that i love and things i love doing

comfort: finding comfort within myself and comfort in being alone

patience - patience with my life in all aspects and directions. good things come to those who wait

good vibrations: channeling my good vibes and making sure they stay

unconditional love: for myself - easy, for my life - hard

healing: i want to get better. fix myself because no one else will.

love you all as always,

Brunch Adventures - Two Sis Co.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of trying out (what has become one of my favourite) brunch spots in Sydney called Two Sis Co. As a general overview, this place was amazing. The food was absolutely gorgeous and tasted even better, and the whole atmosphere of the cafe is so lovely! The beautiful banana leaf wall was just made for instagram photos, although most of seats were taken by the time I got there and we had to wait a little while to get the seat we wanted. I would recommend getting there around 10-10:30 am so you have plenty of time to enjoy the food and take in the atmosphere. I have put together a collection of photos from the day (taken by me and my trusty gal Nausheen!) that I just had to share. Enjoy!

We ordered the french toast with Persian fairy floss (major heart eyes!) and two fruity frappes to share between us. The french toast was divine, crunchy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. I'm glad we decided to share because there is no way I could have finished it on my own!

As you can see, these frappes also had some serious insta-worthy appeal. They were so fresh and pretty, and I can't help but crave one now that I look back on it 😋

Just admiring the view :)

Thank you so much for reading this post! Leave a comment with your favourite brunch spot below or recommend some great ones in Sydney if you like :) Love you all as always,

My Favourite Green Bowl

Hello again my loves! Todays' blogpost is something i haven't really done before - I'm going to be sharing the recipe for my favourite green bowl. This green bowl is honestly one of my favourite salads right now, It is so filling, healthy (duh!) and makes for some great instagram photos too! It's pretty easy to make as well, but it does take a little while to get everything prepared.

There you have it! Your very own delicious and nutritional green salad. Now all thats left to do is take a thousand instagram photos while it's still looking pretty 😉. I really hope you enjoyed today's blog post - As I said before it's not something I'm used to doing. While you are here make sure to save some of the pictures onto Pinterest so you can always have this recipe at hand and leave a comment if you would like :) . Love you all as always,

My Top 10 Moments Of NYFW

Hello again! Now unless you have been under a rock for the past week, you are sure to know that the looks from New York Fashion Week has once again blown everyone away. In honour of arguably one of the most important weeks in the fashion industry, I'm sharing my top 10 favourite looks and inspirationcfrom the streets of New York.

Note - None of these photos are my own: Photo credit - IMAXTREE and Getty Images

This look is so magical and the flowers in her hair are so dainty - the perfect way to add a feminine touch.

This photo makes me want to go blow all my savings on a pair of hoop earrings (which might not be a bad idea 😉)

These earrings are the perfect way to spice up an otherwise plain outfit.

Simplicity at its best - I love the pairing of red and a muted brown.

And on the completely opposite end of the spectrum, vibrant colours and intricate beading paired with a matching head piece for the perfect pop.

I really really love the experimentation of eyeliner here - maybe it's time to add some crazy colours into my collection!

Colour coordinating your snacks to your outfit has got to be one of the best things to come out of this week - and can we talk about the stunning hair? Embrace that 'fro girl. Embrace it.

Another of my favourite looks - pink paired with black is an all round classic.

My favourite (and literally) golden moment from the catwalks.

Thank you so much for reading my loves! I hope you enjoyed getting inspired by these looks - I might have to do a part 2 as there were so many more I loved! Be sure to stick around - I have a lot of fun things planned for the year ahead.

Love you all as always,

ps - while you're here, you might as well check out some of my other posts 😉

Summer 17 / 18 Wishlist

One of my favourite things about this time of year is all the fabulous sales taking over the shops right about now, and you know what that means... Time for another wish list post! This time I'm covering all things fashion and beauty, so hopefully you can find some inspiration for gift ideas or even things to add to your own.

I do not own any of the following photos, they are from the brands websites.

Frank Body have always had good reviews and I have been wanting to try them out for  myself for ages. This mini scrub set seems perfect for a first timer, and it doesn't break the budget coming in at only $19.95

I actually smelt this fragrance in store earlier, and trust me if it wasn't $29.99 I would have bought it right then and there. Fortunately for me, I looked on the Victoria's Secret website and found it for just under $10. It smells absolutely perfect for summer - Fresh and girly with notes of white tea and vanilla.

I have wanted these style jeans for my wardrobe ever since spring started, and I feel like they would be the perfect staple for my summer closet. The colour and fit look so amazing, and I can already see myself creating multiple looks with these jeans. However they do come at the price of $100, which is definitely pushing it for someone like me who doesn't exactly have a load of cash to splash.

My lipstick collection is looking kinda sad right now, and this set has it all. Too Faced lipsticks all have pretty good reviews, and the swatches and samples I have had in the past have always lasted well. These shades also look pretty good on my skin, and can we talk what great value this set is? Ordinarily, just one of these lipsticks cost $30, but this set of four minis only costs $36.

I'm almost certain that everyone single one of you reading this has heard of the Mario Badescu skincare range, and probably heard someone rave about it too. This facial spray is infused with herbal extracts and aloe vera to help soothe inflamed skin and is mixed with rosewater to gently cleanse and hydrate. It also is wallet friendly at just $9, which if you ask me is pretty good value for a 118 mL spray.

I found these shorts via Pinterest and instantly knew that they would be perfect for my summer collection. I normally don't like wearing shorts, but this pair looks so comfy and come at the irresistible price of $16!

I saw this palette on the Mecca website last week and instantly fell in love with these shades. They are the perfect warm neutral shades for my skin tone, and even include 6 matte and 6 metallic colours. However, it is a bit on the pricy side at $71, but the quality of Stila should (hopefully) make it worth it.

As soon as I saw this set in my local Mecca Maxima (A big beauty store in Australia for all you non - Aussies), I'm not going to lie, I got a bit excited. Koreas skincare has been one of my favourite brands this year, even making an appearance in my first blog post. This set comes with a deep exfoliating scrub, clay deep cleansing mask, rich moisturising mask and an instant brightening mask. Price wise, the entire set costs $50 making them around $12.50 each, which is pretty okay for what you get.

I have always wanted to add a book by New York bestselling author Rupi Kaur to my collection, and this recent release 'the sun and her flowers' looks like it will soon be making an appearance on my shelves.  A paperback copy of it costs just $7.18 on Amazon, and I think indulging in the positive messages about growth and healing would be the perfect way to start the new year.

These Gucci inspired belts are so trendy at the moment, and I feel like I could totally make room for one in my summer wardrobe. They are so versatile and practical, and this one from supre only costs $15!

I don't know about you, but I always somehow end up buying a ton of eyeshadow and never even think about brushes. I have previously bought the face version of this set, and despite the fact that they were not from a big name brand, they lasted pretty well and did their job just fine. They are also really affordable at just $14.95, so I might just be welcoming these into my collection pretty soon.

Would this even be a wish list post if The Body Shop didn't make an appearance? I found this treats set while browsing online the other day, and I'm not going to lie, I am kinda obsessed. It comes with a Japanese cherry blossom scented body butter and shower gel, as well as a mini bath lily. Not to mention the fact that The Body Shop is having crazy good sales right now, so even if this set doesn't quite take your fancy, I'm sure you will find something you love for a great price ( by the way, this set cost $13!)

That's all from me my loves! Make sure to leave some post ideas on my Instagram if you have any.

Self-Care September: 17 Things to do in The Name Of Self-Care

Hello hello! Welcome back to my Self-Care series! This is going to be my last post in this series so I have gathered a list of my favourite things and ideas of what to do for my self when I have a spare moment to myself. It is important to remember that self-care is about more than just taking a bubble bath or eating a piece of chocolate, it's about learning to nurture your body and mind, taking proper care of your self and knowing your worth. These tips are 17 of my favourite things to do in the name of self-care - mind, body, and soul.

hope you enjoy xx

This one doubles as a time out exercise and as a reminder/inspiration for you. I like to refresh mine every month with my new goals and focus

Making sure you are getting enough sleep is extremely important, so I highly recommend downloading a sleep tracking app (Apple devices have a built in ones in the 'Clock' app) so you can see how many hours sleep you are getting, what time you need to go to bed, receive reminders on when to turn off your devices and start getting ready for bed, as well as alarms and charts showing your weekly sleep habits.

There are tons on Instagram accounts and Pinterest boards on this topic if you are stuck for inspiration. Bullet journaling is a fun and personal thing to do, and like to use mine to write down thoughts, goals, memories and to do lists to name a few.

I recently made a playlist with all the old songs I loved ( 2013 Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen anyone?) and right now it is one of my favourite things to listen to. For me, songs are attached to memories, an it makes my feel a lot better to be able to relive the good moments when i'm feeling down.

Or old. It doesn't really matter, just as long as you are learning something. You could buy or download books on something you love, learn a language or even revisit old notes from previous years. Knowledge is power after all.

Couch potatoes and internet addicts I'm looking at you here *looks at myself* . It is very important to stay active, and there are countless things you can find and love. I love playing basket ball (not just because I'm tall folks) and sometimes I like to put on a fun playlist and jog around my suburb and do some simple exercises afterwards. One thing I started doing to make this a habit was not letting myself shower in  the morning until I had done a workout. Sounds strange I know, but trust me, it works!

When was the last time you sat down a read a book? Painted a picture? Baked a cake? Played an instrument? What ever it is that you love doing, just do it.

Is it just me, or is planning something in detail strangely soothing?
I started making an itinerary for my gap year, planning how to reach my goals and how I'm going to boost my blog. You will be surprised at how good you feel after making a plan to stick to.

No, I am not talking about quadratic equations and Pythagoras theorem, I'm talking about I initially started doing this as an idea for a post to upload later in the year, but I was surprised at how many things I was able to think of. It is important - mentally and spiritually - to reflect on your life and take out the most valuable lessons, weather it be to take every opportunity or simply to never leave the room while making toast.

Quick story time - A couple of years ago, one of my best friends moved to the other side of the planet, and long story short, we lost touch. Earlier this year we started messaging each other again, and it turns out she is coming back this December.

Whenever I need an extra kick of motivation, I open up my curtains and let some air in. I find it soothing to listen to the outside world and have some fresh air coming in as I do my work.

This one will only take a second, why don't you do it now? Close your eyes, relax your
body and take 5 deep breaths. You probably don't realise how tense you feel all the time, so keep this one in mind for whenever you are on the bus or want a quick break from studying.

I started doing this in 2015, and I have managed to rack up a solid $200 from the random coins I have found around my house or have been given to me as change from purchases. Another idea I recently saw on instagram was saving every $5 note given to you for a year and putting it in a jar with the lid superglued shut. Anyone want to try this with me in 2018?

Take a shower. Wash your face. Brush out your hair. Exfoliate. There are so many things you can do to give yourself a small hygiene boost.

Creating short-term or long-term goals is essential in having a heathy lifestyle. They can be related to anything you want, work, school, hobbies, the list goes on. Let the feeling you get when you finally complete them be your motivation.

If possible, turning off all your devices and getting back in touch with the real world is always a good idea. If you can't survive the whole weekend, powering down your devices for an hour or so will also help you to fight the urge to check instagram every two seconds. I use this trick while studying and trust me, you will be surprised at how many times you reach for your phone when you are supposed to be doing something important.

Last but not least, creating your own self-care routine. This is a vital step in self - care, and yours could include ideas from this list or others from around the internet. The end goal is after all, to begin nurturing your mind, body and soul daily. You only get one body, so it is important to take care of it - inside and out.

Hope you enjoyed this list!!
